Mahatma Gandhi University(MGU) will now offer PG programmes based on outcome oriented learning.
Mahatma Gandhi University(MGU) will now offer PG programmes based on outcome oriented learning, teaching, and evaluation system. The varsity has recently completed revision of its curriculum based on the new method proposed by UGC and the State Higher Education Council.
R. Pragash, syndicate member and convener of the exam sub-committee said, “Details of the outcome-based education curriculum framework will be uploaded on the varsity website soon. The new approach will be applicable to all postgraduate programmes offered by the varsity and its affiliated colleges.” The curriculum synchronises existing learning and teaching activities to ascertain expectations of students.
The fundamental aim of this method is to specify what students are expected to learn from the programme. Dr. Pragash further added that training was offered to teachers in the proposed method. The outcome-based education system envisages a student-centric learning and teaching methodology in which course assessment and delivery are planned according to objectives and outcomes. It also focuses on gauging student’s performance at various levels.
A crucial component of the method is the training in assessment methods(AMs), suitable for gauging the attainment of Intended Learning Outcomes(ILO). Questions are framed by teachers according to different levels of understanding. Different values have to be assigned to the levels of understanding to gauge the attainment of the level by a student.
