The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has requested Medical Council of India or MCI to extend the last date of PG medical admission.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has requested Medical Council of India or MCI, the regulatory body of medical education in India to extend the last date of PG medical admission from May 18 to May 31, 2019 to fill the remaining vacant seats in the academic session 2019-20. According to the schedule specified by MCI, the last date for filling up post-graduate(PG) medical seats by states is May 18, 2019.
A statement by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, under which MCI functions has received several representations from state governments and institutions to extend the last date for filling up of vacant PG medical seats beyond the scheduled date (May 18, 2019). “The Health Ministry has thus requested the Board of Governors (BoG), MCI to examine the matter and make suitable recommendations. The BoG is meeting today to consider the matter,” the statement from the Ministry said.
In a related development on May 27, the Supreme Court asked Maharashtra government to apprise it about the status of admissions for PG medical and dental courses under 10 per cent quota for students belonging to economically weaker sections(EWS). A vacation bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Aniruddha Bose told this while hearing a petition.
The petition has sought a direction from the state to not implement 10 percent reservation for EWS across all classes in PG medical and dental courses. The admission in undergraduate medical courses will begin after the declaration of results for National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test or NEET. The exam was held on May 5 and May 20. The results will be declared in June first week.
