At least 59 private schools operating on DDA land in Delhi NCR have been granted permission to increase their fees by 5-10 per cent by Delhi Government, officials said on Tuesday. According to the norms, private schools built on DDA land have to seek permission from the DoE before implementing any kind of fee hike.
There are nearly 301 schools in the city from which 267 had seeked permission from DoE for fee hike. “After detailed audit of the schools, 59 of them which were in deep shortage of funds have been allowed to hike the fees by 5-10 per cent. The fee hike will be limited to tuition fees only,” a senior DoE official state. Earlier in 2017, schools were allowed to implement an ‘interim fee hike’ of up to 15 per cent.
This is in accordance with the seventh pay commission’s recommendations only when the schools get their account audited by the government in a fixed period of time. The order was taken back by AAP government, saying that schools can’t increase their fee unless the accounts of schools have been audited. The schools had thereafter moved to the High Court and secured a stay on the order by a single bench.
