The University Grants Commission(UGC) has proposed a ‘National Academic Credit Bank’ in higher education.
The University Grants Commission(UGC) has proposed a ‘National Academic Credit Bank’ in higher education to make inter-university degrees a realty soon, a senior UGC official told on Thursday. The initiative will replace the current system of CBCS (credit-based choice system) that allows student of one university to take admission in one university, pursue the degree in another, and earn a degree from a completely different university, Dr Bhushan Patwardhan stated in a press release.
The release further added that it would provide a lot of flexibility to students. The proposal was recently made in Pune and still is in deliberation stage, he said adding with the National Academic Credit Ban. The UGC has appointed a committee which met a couple of times to study the proposal, the release said.
“Once this goes through proper deliberations and
accepted, we would like to roll it out on an experimental basis or on a pilot
project basis in any one of the Universities by the academic year 2021”,
Patwardhan said. He further added that current education system is teacher and
institution centric which needs to be changed. Around 225 teachers from
different institutes across states such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil
Nadu attended interactive sessions, and workshops.
