The NIRF rankings were announced by president Ram Nath Kovind at Vigyan Bhavan on Monday.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has attained the top spot in NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework 2019). The ranking was announced by president Ram Nath Kovind at Vigyan Bhavan on Monday. Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Bangalore and IIT-Delhi got second and third rank respectively.
In the university category, IISc Bengaluru was ranked first, IIT-Madras got the top spot in the engineering category. Among management institutes, IIM-Bengaluru was ranked first. All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) Delhi was adjudged as best medicine institute and Delhi’s Jamia Hamdard gained the top spot in pharmacy. Like last year, institutions have been ranked in nine categories namely overall, colleges, universities, engineering, pharmacy, management, law, medicine, and architecture.
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras got a score of 83.88 to top the overall category, while IISc got a close score of 82.28 getting the second rank in the list. IIT Delhi ranked third with a score of 78.69. In addition to NIRF rankings, MHRD also launched the first ARIIA rankings to promote innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.
IIT- Madras was ranked first in the ARIIA rankings 2019, IIT- Bombay and IIT-Delhi were placed second and third in the list respectively. Ten Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) have been awarded for their contribution in encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship within their campus in this category. Five private universities have also been awarded. VIT Vellore was ranked first, followed by KIIT Bhubaneswar, and SRM Institute of Science and Technology at second and third position.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in a tweet on Tuesday said, “Congratulations to @iitmadras, @iiscbangalore & @iitdelhi for emerging as top three institutions in the Overall category in the India Rankings 2019 #NIRF.” The NIRF is an initiative of MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister for Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country.
