The HRD ministry allotted on Wednesday digital blackboards for 9 lakhs classrooms in higher education institutes across the country.
The HRD ministry on February 20, 2019 launched allotted on Wednesday digital blackboards for 9 lakhs classrooms. Through this move, the government aims to equip these blackboards in schools and colleges across the country by 2022.
HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said to PTI, “Some 60-70 years back there was an ‘Operation Blackboard’ because that was the need of the hour then. But the country has progressed over the years, and now we need an Operation Digital Blackboard.”
Earlier, the HRD ministry had formed a committee headed by professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala from IIT Madras to put an estimate for the need of digital blackboards in educational institutions across the country.
Javadekar told PTI-Bhasha, “Tablets have been provided to the 25 schools where the project has been launched under Operation Digital Blackboard.” He further added that the committee had estimated the need for seven lakh digital blackboards for higher educational institutes.
He said that all the blackboards will be supplied to institutes till 2022 from 75th anniversary of our independence. The central and state government will work together with municipal bodies, CSR departments, and general public to accomplish this goal by 2022.
